Officiate Football in Kern County

Friday night lights are a Kern County tradition — and they don't happen without officials. From youth leagues to varsity, football officials are in high demand across the county.

About Football Officiating

What you'll do on the field

Football officials work as a crew, each with a defined role, enforcing NFHS rules and keeping the game safe and fair. New officials typically start on youth and lower-level games, learning the mechanics on the field alongside veteran crews before working their way up to JV and varsity.

  • Work as part of a crew — you're never out there alone
  • Start on youth and freshman games while you learn
  • Progress to JV and varsity as your skills develop
  • Comprehensive summer study sessions and scrimmage reps before the season
